Nearly 1.5 million visitors a year can't be wrong! This bustling metropolitan playground offers unlimited recreation opportunities anchored around a 1,000 surface-acre lake. Some come to practice their aim at the park's shooting range, and others use the large, paved model airplane field. Less busy during midweek, Cherry Creek is a convenient getaway for frazzled urbanites. And this state park was the site of the prayer vigil and papal mass with Pope John Paul II during World Youth Day 1993.
