Description
This rustic state operated reservoir lies north of Interstate 70 between New Castle and Rifle. The setting for Harvey Gap State Park is the Grand Hogback formation of rolling hills. This reservoir was formed in the 1890s to support agricultural development in the region. Since that time it has become a rustic, but popular, recreation site. Developed picnic areas, swimming areas and a boat ramp provide access to the clear cool alpine waters of this reservoir. There are three picnic areas that support 30 sites equipped with grills and views of the area. The 160-acre lake is stocked with a variety of cold and warm water fish, including rainbow trout, tiger muskies, crappie, catfish and smallmouth bass.
