Campground Reviews for Rainbow Springs State Park |
|
Ranking: | 5 out of 5 |
First, let me start by confessing that we have never camped at this Park before. That said, I live close by and friends of ours have tent camped here for almost 20 years and love the park and the area. Rainbow springs has an actual springs and river which runs through the park and has been used in the filming of fishing lure commercials (crystal clear water). We moved to the the Rainbow Springs area two years ago and love the weather and surroundings of this Dunnellon, Florida location. If you want to float or boat in the crystal clear water, just a few miles south of the Park, on the Rainbow Springs River, is located a facility called "K.P. Hole". You'll see the signs for it on Highway 41, just south of the Park. K.P. stands for the Knights of Pitheus who previously owned and used the recreation area for their own members. Nowadays, the owners rent canoes, kayaks, water games and swimming areas for incoming visitors. Again, K.P. Hole is an area which was frequented and praised by our friends for years. As far as eating, the nearby town is called Dunnellon. This city has a Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Sonics, Pizza Hut and all the usual food joints. There are also two, waterfront, Rainbow Springs River, sit-down restaurants on the south end of town (Route 41) and on the east end of town. Just head east from the main traffic light downtown (not that big of a town). For an authentic seafood and cuban food experience on the gulf coast, travel about a half hour southwest to Crystal River, Florida. On Highway 98/19 there is a downtown, Best Western Motel. At the back of the motel, next to the Scuba/Snorkel/Tour boat shop is an authentic cuban food hide-away (can't remember the name but it doesn't have a sign out front anyway). Next door to this great beer and sandwich hideout on the gulf is another, larger seafood restaurant called Oysters. Oysters has good food and features a waterfront patio with a live band on the weekends. I am buying my first motorcycle in about a month (Suzuki Volusia 800) and would love to join you on this camping adventure. In a few months from now, I will have the opportunity, such as you. I know that you will love the area and the Rainbow Springs Park. Stay safe, ride long! | |
